Lesson 2 - Protection from Power Q2

If you had ultimate power to organize (not rule) a government so it would be fairly easy to remove and replace officials who were not doing a good job, what would it look like? Be specific. DO NOT reply to others comments.

In all honesty, if I had the power to change officals if they weren't doing a great job, my government would resemble a very intense game of musical chairs at first and then stay fairly consistant. No one is perfect and I'd take that into account. The people placed as officals would be tested, but only replaced if they did something seriously wrong. If a person proved themselves worthy, honest, and dedicated to their job, then I would leave them in it or offer promotions. That is why over time, consistancy would occur in the organization of the government.

if i could set up a government I would have the people(each citizen over 18) elect two people(consuls) who would controll the senate. The senate would have 2 senators from each state, reguardless of population or square feet. the senators would be elected every 2 years, and the consuls would be elected every year. each citizen(18+) would be able to vote for both senators and consuls.

If I was in charge of organizing a government and I had ultimate power then there would be no political parties. No democrats, republicans, socialists, or anything else. There would still be the three branches of government, but instead of a multi-party election, there would just be independent thinkers who did what they felt was right for the country. Someone could be pro-life, but also for gay marriage at the same time. No one would have to change their views in order to make one group of people happy because, in the end, the people with a clear conscience will be elected.

My perfect government would not be one that i had control over because that opposes my own view that no one person should hold more esteem than anyone else. However if i had that power i would elect those who i think can not only make a difference but also handle the responsabilities of thier office. I certainly would not choose someone for the kickbacks or the perks i may recieve.

If I were given the ultimate power in creating a government, it would probably resemble a democracy. People who wanted to represent others would come forth and the public would vote to choose their representative. These representatives would then get together and decide on a person to become a higher authority, such as a president, using the votes of the citizens. This way all government officials would be chosen by the people. This would hopefully start off the government as one that the citizens support. As time went on, when officials started to become unliked by the people, then there would be a new vote as to who should take their place. This would allow all citizens the right to choose their government officials.

In my own opinion, i feel that a government with the least amount of personal intervention would be the best. To be more specific, this government would not be a large central government with a broad set of rules. Instead it would act like separate communities, each with a set of rules, regulations, and businesses. The people in the community would gather annually to discuss what could be done to better itself. decisions would be made by an equal voting system, in that everybody's vote would count the same way. This voting system would eliminate unsatisfactory government officials, as it wouldn't have any to start out with.

Well in all honesty any government created will become corrupt overtime. No government is perfect and that includes our own. First off I would make sure every job had a one year limitation. That way it would be easy to get fresh ideas in all the time. Also people could be re-elected as many times as possible as long as the voters agreed. Also I would re-evaluate all jobs because at the root of all governments is money. Money rules over all of us. I feel that some people are getting paid a little to much and doing not enough. I feel that making all jobs with closer to equal pay would help cut down on corruption. Also I am not ruling the government with this opinion I am simply RE-ORGANIZING pay roll to help better position the government.

if i had the control to change those in power when i wanted, those people would regularly be evaluated by those effected the most- their people. if there are any problems, they are dealt with or replaced.

if i had the control to organize the government where i could remove and replace officials, i would not be the one deciding if they were doing a good job. i would be one of many who does get to decide. i would hold regular polls and voting to see the citizens perceptions on how well government officials were doing their job. if the general concencus was that the person was not doing a good job, they would be replaced with another who the people elect.

This is tough...ok, well first I would have the citizens (18 and up)vote and chose 10 people instead of just 1 president. This solitary group would be kind of like a Parliament, administrating the country. From this group different special postions would be formed and appointed amongst themselves such as treasurer and secretary. Each person in the group would present their individual ideas and within the group vote on laws and decisions to be passed. Certain decisions could only be passed with a unanimous vote. Then after one year, if any citizen wishes to run or a member wishes to resign or be re-elected this is put up for vote by the citizens (18 and up). A member can stay as long as he/she is re-elected the next year, and at anytime if a member feels another member of the 10 should be let go, they may take a vote amongst themselves. If the vote is unanimous in favor of dismembering, that individual must step down. In which case a new person may be elected by the citizens.

If I had power to organize a government, I probably wouldn't change too much about the system we have in the United States. I agree with jackfruit33 that there should be some paycheck limit. Some people get paid way too much! There should also be a limit on how much a politician can use for campaigning. It's not fair if one guy wins just because he has more money to advertise. Politician should also be forbidden to have private contact with major corporations! It may help to prevent big box stores from persuading high powered people.

If I had the power to change officals in the government I would make each president in office for two years only. During their stay in office there would be voting for the people (18+) to determine if they were satisfied with the job the president is doing or not. If the majority voted that they do not approve of the president, then the president could be replaced. I would also get rid of the electoral college and just have the election based on the popular vote. Some people feel like it doesn't matter if they vote in the election because "their vote doesn't count". Getting rid of the electoral college would help that.

I believe a model government would be a democracy like we have here in the U.S.A. People should be able to vote who gets to lead them and to change powers of positions in the government i would have the people that we govern chose if our leader is doing a good job. I would let the people vote on very important issues and let people represent each state to tell the ocuntry about their oppinnions on important issues such as wars, International Relations and many other topics

If I could organize my own government, I would make it as simple as possible. Their would be very limited intervention with the people's lives. Taxing is appropriate but it can easily be taken too far. Also, as long as you are of age (18+), any man or woman could run for a position. If someone feels they can do a lot of good for their state or country, then they should prove it and everyone should have open ears and minds to hear what someone has to say. There would still be higher spots and lower spots within the group of people, just like any other job. But in order to truly secure a spot on the team, you have to prove yourself worthy, of course. But a government is nothing too special. It is like a team of people working together to secure the happiness and wealth of one's homeland. You have to be committed and determined to do so.

Hmm...there are many ways to go about this, but one idea I really like is partially influenced by a friend of mine a while ago. It would pretty much be based upon the system the U.S. has in place now, but with some changes I hope would organize things a little more. First of all, to make sure good candidates get in in the first place, my friend and I felt it would be an interesting and maybe better idea for all candidates to be anonymous when voted for - people would cast their votes for a politician's views instead of a name and a person they see and judge, kind of like how we're all anonymous on this blog. You'd find out after the election is over who you voted for, not being loyal to any one party but instead looking into the individual. It would be difficult to organize a good way to pull that off, of course, but some people base their very important votes off of judgment caused by rumors and scandals and I just don't feel that's right. Of course, a big problem is honesty...

If an official isn't doing their job well enough, though, maybe polls could be taken every few months asking some opinions about the official - president, governor, mayor, etc. and if a sizeable amount of complaints are coming in about a person, things can be better discussed in a meeting (free to attend locally, but when it comes to a president/leader, representatives would need to hold the meetings...they should have notes from the polls, though, to bring up issues). This might not work very well in a largely populated, generally just large country like the U.S., though. I also feel that the jobs should be a bit more sacrificial than they already are, so those enticed by the paychecks and not the job itself could be discouraged. I hope this idea isn't too full of loopholes or something, and instead would offer more voice to people. I don't think anyone should feel as if they have to be loyal to one "side" of...politics, I guess. it might depend too much on the majority, but just because there's a majority doesn't mean the minority will be ignored. You know?

To make a government simplistic enough so that removing and replacing officials who were not doing a good job, I would make the officials' terms only last one year. However, anyone could be re-elected as many times as the voters wanted. With such a short time in office, the officials would feel pressured to do a good job so that the voters would want to re-elect them. And since one year isn't really a long time to be in office, the officials wouldn't be able to completely mess up the country.

This is difficult, but I think that I would form a government that somewhat resembles ours. I would want it to be a democracy because it's only fair that everyone being governed had say in what they want and need. Like many others have said, the terms of the officials would only be something like one or two years and, as is it is now, all adults (18 and older) would be able to vote.

I would run the government the same way that it is run now. With the people electing those who they think do the best job and care the most.

I do agree with what Black Lizzy says, that yes it would look like an extreme game of musical chairs. Where people were removed only if they do poorly.

If i had my own government ii guess i would have a democratic system. people would vote directly on issues and there would be no representatives. there would be steep requirments for voting like a citzenship, education, and age. there would be a branch of government specificly created for searching for corruption in other areas of government. i would sub divide it into multiple branches that have equal juristiction but could still investigate each other to prevent further corruption.

For myself, I can be fairly certain that my government would be efficient, well run, and intensly political. There would be a certain selection of positions available to only the elite; the greatest leaders, the best speakers/negotiaters, the sharpest minds, and overall just the best in the country. These positions would not be elected by the people. However, there would be 'middle men,' senators and representatives, that would convey what the people need or want, and make the tedious daily decisions that they do today. These men and women would be elected by the people, by state. Each un-elected official would be replaced if another better-suited person is found to replace them, however, the elected officials would serve out their term before either running for office again, or resigning.

My government would be similar to ours today, because it has worked fairly well in the past [I'm not so sure about right now though]. There would be the three branches, but instead of one president, there would be two. As a general rule, they would have to be fairly different, like gender, religion, race, ethnicity, or even political party. This way we have another point of view & opinion and someone of equal standing to oppose each other. Of course, we would have to make sure they didn't just fight all the time, like 2 completely different countries who can never agree, compromise would have to be involved. They would each be around for 4 years, but would overlap half their time with one person, then someone new, so every 2 years we would vote. This way, each president would work with 2 people during their time. [Collaborate more ideas with different people, etc.]

If i had control to run my governement. It would also resemble a democracy. Everyone can't be a politician and in charge but they need to be able to vote who they want to represent them, hence a representative! But i know most governments will become corrupt or there will be some mistakes and some learning experiences and all that will be taken into consideration!

I have a strong feeling that what I'm about to write may be rebuttaled by many people. I personaly have nothing against the democratic system of government that the United States uses. Officials can be sworn in or replace and the president or head of office can be empiched or elected by the word of the citizens. Yes the president many not have the most supporters but there is no one willing to state that he should be empiched. I personally think it is the responsability of the republic to elect and dismiss officials, not sit back and watch. My government would consist of many different levels in which laws and legislatures must pass. Officials are elected by the people and for the people.

I would have multiple representatives from each state. For someone to be removed there would be a vote on whether or not they should be allowed to stay. Before the vote took place the other representatives from that state would have to state their opinions outloud to everyone else

If I were organizing a government, I would probably be doing the whole "salad bar" thing and picking what I liked from differnt governments. I would defintily keep it a democracy, because as inefficent as it may be sometimes, I think its the most moral of governments. I would keep it in the three parliaments, but there would be no president. Just representives from each parliament. I agree with the person who said that there shouldnt be any electoral college, because it really does get in the way of the peoples vote. In some cases, I would have people get pyschologically tested before voted, but only in extreme cases. EVERYONE would be equal, regardless of any characteristic they may have, and we would have universal health care. Rich people would not get any tax breaks, because that just doesnt go along with everyone being equal. I would have all these guidelines to make sure that power doesnt get unevenly, and unfairly dispersed among certain individuals who dont show their true colors. People would get "surveys" every year for how they thought things were going.
I know I must be forgetting somethings, but these I think would make it so the people could remove and replace officials easier than now a days
